Roan Mountain is one of my favorite places in Tennessee. This is the second year that we have been able to spend some time in this beautiful place as a family. My lucky husband has been traveling here several times a month for some of his job sites.
You can't beat the million dollar views from atop Roan Mountain. Every year during mid June the rhododendron gardens are in bloom. These are natural occurring gardens and at it's peak the blooms can be picked up from space via satellite!
The weather here is tricky. Last year it was a freezing blustery day and I could not stand to get out of the car. This year we came prepared with jackets, pants and long sleeves. As you can see it was unnecessary and we even had to change into shorts.
One of the other highlights for our family is touring the Miller Homestead inside the state park. We've lucked out each time and have had the place to ourselves for at least an hour.
I could move right in to this over-a-hundred-year-old homestead and be perfectly happy for the rest of my life. The farm house is nestled into the most beautiful valley.
Lots of beautiful flowers abound.
There are plenty of old weathered out buildings to explore.
The inside of the house is gorgeous and has lots of history within it's walls.
I could stare at the newspaper wallpaper for hours.
The oldest one we have been able to find is this 1942 Life magazine cover.
If you are ever in east Tennessee make sure you plan a visit to this amazing place!
