Scrappy

Thursday, April 19, 2012
I decided to raid my scrap bin(s) and see what I could come up with. I used my Accuquilt Go! to speed things along. First I used the 1.5” strip die to cut the large pieces into strips. Then I used the 4.5” strip die to quickly cut those strips down to 1.5”x4.5” pieces.

I worked through one bin at a time and so far I have made it through the red/pinks, orange, yellows, and greens. This is going to make a lovely baby sized quilt.

Mini Me

Wednesday, April 18, 2012
Lately my little girl (age 5) has taken a major interest in drawing and coloring. She’s always liked coloring but her drawing skills are really blossoming. She very adoringly tells me “Mommy, you’re an artist.” I don’t know if I like to refer to myself as an artist but I’m not going to argue with her! :) Then she proceeds to tell me how she’s going to be an artist just like me when she grows up.
When I was still working on my DQS 12 version two, I walked into her room to find this taped to her wall:
Mini Me
which she made after she saw me working on this:
Red and Teal flying Geese
I think I have a future quilter on my hands! I love her intuitive color combos.

Sunny Side Up

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Well it’s done.  Somehow I managed to wait until the very last day to finish up my DQS 12 for my partner.

Here it is in all it’s glory:

Sunny Side Up
I must confess to breaking the rules. We weren’t supposed to use solid white. Somehow I missed that important tidbit until after I had made this block. Once I realized my mistake I went to look for the perfect shade of red and aqua at all the local fabric stores.

Do you know how hard it is to find the perfect shade of aqua?? Well it’s impossible. At least it is in west central Alabama and in middle Tennessee. So I chose the next best thing and used teal and red and came up with this:

Red and Teal flying Geese

I liked it but I didn’t love it. I also felt that it wasn’t quite what my partner would love. So it sat there for weeks and stared at me. Finally last week I decided to just go with the my first block and break the rules anyway.

I think my partner will be very happy!

Stats:
approximately 11”x11”
paper pieced NY beauty block
Kona Cotton in white, teal, and charcoal
Pieced and free motion quilted by me (even the straight lines!)
